Hum Tum - Subtitle
Karan (Saif Ali Khan) is a cartoonist and a self-styled ladies' man. His daily comic, "Hum Tum," playfully explores the battle of the sexes. On a plane from Delhi to New York, he sits next to Rhea (Rani Mukherjee), and she doesn't seem the least bit interested in him. His feeble attempts at flirting go nowhere, but when they have a stopover in Amsterdam, she agrees to spend a few hours exploring the city with him. Karan quickly learns he has little in common with the feisty but proper Rhea, but he won't give up. He ends their contentious time together with an unwelcome kiss. Rhea is outraged and storms off, but Karan insists they'll meet again. And he's right. Months later in New York, he spots her in the park, and she causes a scene with his girlfriend. They don't see each other again until three years later, when Karan is helping his mother plan a wedding that turns out to be Rhea's. They bicker again, but this time, they part on good terms. Years later in Paris, Karan is visiting his father (Rishi Kapoor), when he runs into Rhea again. He learns from Rhea's mother (Kiron Kher) that a tragedy has befallen the girl, and he sets out to help her reclaim her positive outlook on life. Sensing that she needs to be with a straight-laced, boring guy, he conspires with Rhea's mother to fix her up with his shy best friend, Mihir (Jimmy Shergill). Things don't go as planned, and Karan and Rhea find themselves forced to confront their feelings for each other. Former film critic Kunal Kohli wrote and directed Hum Tum, his second feature. There she meets and falls in love with his brother, Douglas (Ralph Bellamy), who is happily married to Ann (Ruth Warrick). Evelyn then sets forth to break up the happy marriage and win the love of Douglas -- with tragic results. A Guest in the House directed by John Brahm, aided by Andre De Toth and Lewis Milestone, who are uncredited, is a sensitive, well-acted melodrama. Baxter gives a fine performance as the unstable young woman, who cannot overcome her obsessions. Michael is suave, sardonic, and sexy. When his leather-clad figure weaves its way through the Dublin traffic on a powerful motorbike, people stare in awe. He loves his two wives (who happen to be sisters), his wild kids, his gang, and, most of all, his way of life. He has two fundamental beliefs: be loyal to your own and the hell with the establishment. As his ego gets bigger and bigger, he enjoys his notoriety more than the cash it brings. Determined to break him, the police increases its harassment of the whole gang, as Michael makes a mistake that could threaten his good name with the public and his reliability as a bread-winner. But he recovers his equilibrium in time to dream up a final grand scheme to survive the trap set for him. The story is reminiscent of John Boorman's The General about a similar real-life character, Martin Cahill, also a Robin Hood married to two sisters. The impressive cast includes Kevin Spacey, Linda Fiorentino, and Peter Mullan, the tragic hero of My Name is Joe. ~ G?n?l D?nmez-Colin, Rovi Bravo Two Zero The BBC1 military miniseries Bravo Two Zero was based on the actual experiences of Sergeant Andy McNab, who adapted the teleplay from his own novel. Set during the 1991 Gulf War, the series' two 60-minute episodes follow an SAS Patrol as they burrow deep into Iraqui-held territory. Their mission: to destroy the scud missiles in the arsenal of Saddam Hussein. Getting into enemy territory was the "easy" part; getting out was another matter entirely. Without giving away the ending, it should be noted that the SAS team in question was the most highly decorated British patrol since the days of the Boer War -- and that only five of the eight operatives lived to receive their decorations. Sean Bean starred as protagonist Andy McNab.
